- This is hard flat land, toughened by brutal winter, sun baked summer, and wind enhancing the effect of both.
- There are long section of nothing. No rise. No fall. Not even a paved road for miles on end. At one point I clocked 17 km´s without seeing a tree. Just a graded rock/dirt road fully exposed across farm fields (wheat and sunflower) that appear to have no owners.
- When towns occur, they are a few streets of red-stone and mud walls organized around the church and plaza. They look like they have been stuck into the land. They are built like this to escape,or at least protect from, brutal weather.
- The Pilgrimage supports these towns. This was the tide line between Islam´s african invasion and Christianity´s reconquest. That history repeats itself throughout. Much of the details have been scrubbed away by weather, but these building are a reminder of fighting for survival.

Comments:
A. Mentally wearing. After Hormillos, it´s sometimes very steep dirt roads almost all the way to Burgos. You have to walk up plenty of sections in the heat and sun.
B. The land is changing from pure flat plateau to the beginning of foothills and there are trees again as you get close to Burgos. Still, I spent one section of over 10 miles without seeing a car nor person. Just fields.
C. Burgos is well worth a stop. The Cathedral is tall, big and spectacular.

B. One section was devoid of everything. Even a paved road for about 14-17 kms. (Calzdilla de las cueza to Corrion do los Condes).
C. After Fromista, which was an important town in the past, the worst is over.

A. Flat, short and forgettable. I was surprised by how easily I could make the distance. I am getting stronger.
B. Spent an extra day in Leon. I expected it to be more than it was. The Cathedral is big and the mass was nice, but there is no reason to stay here.
